ROCK SOLID
This is a weekly club programme for Intermediate aged young people (Year 7 and 8) which meet each Friday (6.30 pm through until 8.00 pm) at Papanui Baptist Church (144 Sawyers Arms Road, Papanui). This high energy action programme incorporates games, discussions, role plays, and talks on life issues with heaps of fun mixed in. Rock Solid looks into these life issues from a Christian perspective, seeing how God relates to these areas, and it is done in a non threatening way. Each term is themed and each night carries an aspect of that theme that helps keep the interest of the young people. Two major camps are run each year, along with small group camps, 40 Hour Famine overnight stays. It is ALL FULL ON and no one has ever been bored with this programme and with this team of leaders!!
The key to Rock Solid is the great leadership team who take a small group of people to give close pastoral care so that everyone is linked with a leader. Regular contact is made with the parents, so home communication is a high priority.
The Intermediate age is a crucial one in a young person’s development. So much is happening over such a small time, that life can sometimes get hectic and maybe even rough around the edges. Good input is needed from all areas of life when at this age. Family, home life, school, sport, and social life are all part of the mix, and they need to be positive as well. Rock Solid aims to be a positive resource that not only is good for the young people who come, but feeds back into family and school life.
