HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES
A vital community service for families and children is the provision of Holiday Programmes during the term breaks. The Papanui Youth Development Trust is committed to providing the best possible Holiday Programmes for children aged 5 – 14. We operate thirteen week long programmes during the year.
Three different holiday clubs are held in each of the April, July, September and January School Holidays (with a possible extra Papanui Pirates week in January).
•The Papanui Pirates Holiday Programme is for children 5 – 10 years old (Year 0 – 6). We cater for 40 children each day over the week, and often have a waiting list due to the popularity of what we offer. This programme is based at the PYD Centre and runs from 8:45am through until 3:00pm. Children need to bring their own morning tea and lunch. Each week has a theme to foster the children’s interest, and these have been as varied as ‘Under the Sea,’ ‘Cops and Robbers,’ ‘Fairy Tales’, ‘Wings and Wheels’, ‘Mad Scientist’, etc. Most days are based at the venue doing activities, games and crafts that are creative, captivating and educational. Within each programme the group gets to go off-site at least twice for a visit or activity to help give balance to the week. All of this is mixed with a great bunch of leaders and heaps of fun to give you have a positively attractive week for the children.
•The Casebrook Cruisers is the Holiday Programme for children who are Year 7 and 8 (Intermediate age). This week long programme is based at the PYD Centre (Te Koru), with at least two days being off-site (one full day is dedicated for a trip to Hanmer involving the hot pools and a walk up Conical Hill). Numbers for the Cruisers are limited to 18 each day.
•The Te Koru Toasters is the Holiday Programme for youth who are Year 9 and 10 (High School). Like the Casebrook Cruisers there are at least two days off-site, (one full day is dedicated for a trip to Hanmer involving the hot pools and a walk up Conical Hill). Numbers for the Toasters are limited to 18 each day.
Our Holiday Programmes are Oscar approved, and we aim to have a leader/child ratio of 1:6 for Papanui Pirates, 1:8 for Casebrook Cruisers and 1:8 for Te Koru Toasters, which offers a great safety margin and ensures that no one misses out on leader input.
Bookings for the programmes are limited and we normally fill up very fast so get in quick!

MAD SCIENTIST SKITS!
As part of the July Holiday Programme the ‘Papanui Pirates’ wrote and recorded their very own ‘Mad Scientist’ themed dramas. They all worked very hard throughout the week in preparation and recorded them in our very own recording studio on their last day with us.
